1 Month!!

My little man is already growing up so fast!!

Caleb’s First Trip to the Beach

At 3 weeks we took Caleb to Ocean City Maryland to the beach.  He got to visit with his great grandparents and got to meet some other family members from Colorado.  Since we was so little we could only be outside before 10am and after 3pm so we didn’t get a whole lot of beach time in but we still had great fun!!

Tummy Time!!!

Coming Home!!

Since I had a c-section we had to stay at the hospital for 3 days.  At the end of those 3 days we were so glad to be able to come home!

Caleb’s Visitors

Caleb Edward Shields

It’s a Boy!!!  Caleb Edward Shields was born on July 8th, 2011 at 17:08.  He weighed in at 8lbs 3oz and was 21 inches long.  I was surprised at how big he was considering I wasn’t all that big!!

After arriving at the hospital for my induction I had to wait, wait and wait some more.  Since they were so busy with new births and waiting for more nurses to arrive, I waited in my room for about 3 hours before a nurse came in to get everything set up.  About a half and hour after that the midwife came and I was 6 cm so they decided to just break my water and let it happen naturally instead of giving me pitocin, which I was happy about.  My contractions started pretty quickly and were fast and furious!!  About an hour and a half into it I was ready for an epidural.  The nurse went to get the midwife and in the time that she was gone Caleb’s heart rate dropped into the 80’s.  In a matter of seconds there were nurses, a midwife and a doctor in my room.  They couldn’t get his heart rate to stay up so they decided to do an emergency c-section.  Everything went fine and Caleb is completely healthy!!  All the nurses and doctors were absolutely wonderful.

Induction Day!

Well, today is the day that we get to meet our little one!!!  My last doctor’s appointment was on Tuesday which was 2 days past my due date and I was 5 cm dilated but not in active labor.  The doctor seemed to think that if they schedule an induction and just break my water I should go into labor on my own rather than giving me medication.  My induction was scheduled for 9:30 but of course we just got a call saying not to come until 10:30 as they had more babies than expected and had to call in more nurses!!  Please pray that everything goes smoothly, I don’t get a mean nasty nurse who is upset about being called in and that Baby Shields is healthy!!

Office Celebration

Today I was completely surprised by my department.  They decorated my cube and had a cake and cupcakes for me.  My boss thought it was funny to put some confetti in my top drawer, which I am sure I will be finding for the next year!!  They also gave us visa gift cards which was very thoughtful.  We are so thankful for everyone’s generosity.

Baby Shields’ Room

We finished the nursery this weekend!!  I have to say that I am very happy with how it turned out!  The only thing left to do it put the baby’s name in white letters above the crib, but of course that can’t be done until we meet our son or daughter!

37 Weeks!! We are almost there!

Jason is in the bag the mattress came in!! He always has to mess around while working!

Basement Project

Well, a couple weeks ago we finally finished our basement.  Jason now has his “man cave” area!  We also put our office down there with a walk-in closest for Jason’s military and hunting gear.  The bathroom plumbing still needs completed but that is not a big deal if the baby comes first!!  Thanks to great family and friends we only had to hire out the drywall finishing and the bar area!!  Now that our office and Jason’s military and hunting gear are downstairs we can start working on the nursery!!  I will be glad when all these projects are done and we can relax until the baby comes!!

Boy or Girl? What do you think?
